It was recently World Smile Day. I’m a big fan of smiling– it doesn’t cost anything, and it leaves a lasting impression on people you encounter.
Now, I can’t say I smile all the time. That would be a lie– especially before 9 a.m, when my boss says I can’t bring my dog to work or when the parking ranger gives me a fine.
However, I’m an advocate for smiling wherever and whenever possible, *as long as it’s past 9 a.m.*
Not just because of it’s aesthetic perks– who doesn’t love seeing a beautiful, big grin? Smiling has actual health benefits too!
One study from the University of Kansas showed that cracking a smile can lower your heart rate and reduce stress *starts smiling immediately*.
Other research from the University of Cardiff in Wales found that people who could not frown due to botox injections “were happier on average than those who could frown.”
Or maybe the researchers couldn’t tell if they were angry…
So as much as we can often resort to resting b#tch faces when the going gets tough, let’s aim to turn that frown upside down.
Because research said so #facts.
